// About the artist

Gerick Terblanche was born 1989 in Cape Town, South Africa & currently lives & works on his family farm near Matjiesfontein in the semi desert region of the Karoo. Gerick’s art is an accumulation of his inspiration & observations from the environment he finds himself in. The diversity in fauna & flora, landscapes, colors & textures that surround him play a big role in his creative process. Gerick has always been fascinated by our human connection to nature. His work is a combination of detailed & realistic main subjects with abstract, simplistic shapes - all dedicated to his profound love & respect for the natural world. Over the past years, Gerick accumulated work in private collections worldwide.

“I regard my work as a discipline or practice rather than an expression; I use it as a tool to observe and learn. Subjects & themes stem from the love for nature. This admiration reflects in each piece's conceptualisation: Shapes, colours, spacing & textures are essential aspects to support the intricacy of every creation. What I love about detailed art is that it draws people closer to the piece - not only physically but in connection with an appreciation for the process; that’s at least my hope & part of my intention. I believe that realism can create a great pull & attention towards easily overlooked elements of beauty. Realism to me is not about trying to mimic what I see. The main goal is observation & catching the essence of the subject. As a consequence of this process, realism becomes rather a result than a strategy or goal.”
